Hello all,
As I suspected, the new template has driven me back to the blog. I'm hoping to post at least once a week, but we'll see how that goes. I am dealing with some intense deadlines from now until July 1st and there are days when--between work and kids--I barely have time to shower.
Actually...sometimes I don't shower. I'll confess I've been wearing the same clothes for over 24 hours come 8 o'clock this morning. Gross, right? Aren't you glad this blog doesn't have a scratch and sniff feature? (That's a joke. I don't smell! I swear I don't. I didn't run a marathon in these clothes, I stayed in a chilly apartment taking care of a baby with a leaky, sick eye and cleaning and helping with homework. The usual fun stuff.)
And contrary to the usual over-sharing, the above over-sharing is over-shared with a purpose. I hope it will help people understand why it might take me a few months to complete the "Night's Rose" novella I've promised several readers.
The "Night's Rose" series--
NIGHT'S ROSE, and
THE PRINCE OF FROGS--both available now, has garnered me more reader email than anything I've written to date. (As Anna or Annaliese, anyway.) A lot of you LOVE this series (and some of you HATE it and the word, "cunt", but I can't be blamed for my hero's word choice. He was making a point and I believe in free speech for the characters chattering in my head).
Because of your love, I honestly did my best to get a pitch together to sell Book 3, the final installment of this series. Unfortunately--or fortunately if you look at it from my point of view, the point of view of having to feed and clothe my family--I signed a nice deal with Pocket for another series before the third Night's Rose book sold. Now, because of my option clause, I am not allowed to write paranormal romance/urban fantasy for anyone except Pocket and books in the Demon Bound series for New American Library.
So my agent can't try to sell that third book for a couple of years. It's just not
legal. I do hope to finish the story in a big, meaty fashion, but there's just no way I can do that as speedily as most of you would like. Therefore, I'm working on a 30,000 word novella that picks up where THE PRINCE OF FROGS left off, continuing Rose, Gareth, and Ambrose's adventures as they travel down to Italy to fight The Mother and find out just what kind of CRAZY family secrets Rose has lurking in her past. I'll be giving the novella away on my website for free, as a gesture of appreciation to my readers.
I'd originally hoped to have that novella finished by early summer, but now it looks like a late summer/early fall delivery is much more realistic. My young adult persona sold another book--a wonderful story I'm so excited to write--and that is where most of my energy will be directed through July 1st, 2010. (Once I finish that other 100k book I'm working on.)
But know that I'm thinking of you, dear Night's Rose lovers. And thanks to everyone who has lingered near this blog in my shameful absence the past year or so.
Merry Thursday,
Anna J. Evans
